I have been holding onto a mirror from the dresser that I refinished a few months ago. I have been perusing pinterest to try and find some inspiration for what I wanted to do to reframe it. I found a fun geometric frame and thought I would do something similar to my mirror. It seemed like it was going to be a lot of geometry, and I got a bit defeated after making my first go at it. Then I realized I just needed to make sure all the lengths matched and didn't have to get my graphing calculator out. I ended up with a pattern I was pretty happy with. After creating the frame, I realized I didn't want to ever have to repaint it, so I went with a plain ole white. I set it up on my kitchen table with paper under it to catch all the drips.
The problem with this plan was that after I finished the front side of the frame, there were little bits of paper stuck all over the back of the frame. This made the job even more tedious because I had to take an Exacto knife and carefully chisel all the paper off. I put one coat of white paint on the back of the decorative part of the frame so you wouldn't see unfinished parts in the reflection of the mirror.
Once all of the painting was done, I put the mirror into a routed frame so that it was held secure on the back, and the mirror set flush with the frame on the front. This made it so that I could secure the decorative part of the frame to the frame that the mirror was sitting flush with. John and I put some liquid nails around the edges and then put some paint cans on it for weight (we have a lot of paint cans!).
After leaving the mirror to sit overnight, it looks like this. I am going to leave it sitting on the floor for a couple of days to make sure the liquid nails is set before hanging it on the wall. It would end very badly if this fell. The mirror will find it's home above the blue dresser in the bedroom.
