One purchase 3+ projects

I have been looking to switch out the art above the couch. I was thinking another shower curtain would do the trick, but wasn't finding something that looked right. I was perusing Target one day and found this twin size duvet cover on sale.

I didn't realize at the time that it came with a pillowcase as well. I figured this was just an added bonus art potential. I started with the pillow case. I wanted to do this one a little different because of the yellow piping around the outside of the pillow case. Normally, I would build the frame smaller than whatever I'm stretcing to give ample room to stretch and staple. With this I didn't want to lose the edge so I made the frame the exact size of the pillow case and used a glue gun to affix it to the frame.

It went pretty well except when I got to the last corner and couldn't quite get it to stretch far enough (and burnt my finger a few times trying). I got it as best I could and moved on. I do like things to be perfect, but in this case I just let it go.

Since this was hot glued to the front of the frame it left me with unfinished edges. I snagged some ribbon from JoAnn and glued that around the edge.

With the ribbon around the edge it was ready to hang. It found a home above John's dresser in the bedroom.

Before jumping on the big piece of wall art I decided to go with a smaller piece. I had cut some of the backside fabric off the pillow case before I framed it. It was another fun surprise when the duvet cover showed up on my door. It was a great geometric pattern and I didn't want it to just be on the backside of my wall art. This time I used the staple gun instead of hot glue. I wrapped the fabric around the edge of the frame like the photo below.

As I worked around the frame, I stretched it tight and folded over the corners with care. I then trimmed away the excess material and it was ready to go.

This little piece of art found its home on the frame wall. With a little reshuffle it fit right in. I think I will have to make another unframed version so this one doesn't stick out for not having a frame. I don't think I have enough left over wood right now, but maybe I will pick some up on my next trip to Lowe's.

I finally got to the large piece to replace my tree wall art. This was done in a similar way to the small art. I had already made the large frame (63x63). I put the duvet cover upside down and put the frame on top. Since this was a geometric pattern, I needed to make sure it was centered on the frame. To do this I measured it out and pulled it over the edges until I could start to see the pattern. I put one staple in each side to make sure it didn't get pulled one way or another as I started to stretch the canvas.

I worked my way around the canvas pulling and stapling until the duvet was taught. I then cut away the excess and tucked the fabric around the wood.

I was going to hang it without putting wire on it, but it wasn't the correct height above the couch and I didn't want to put holes in the wall again. I put a couple eye bolts in the frame and put some picture wire between the two. I hung it up on the wall and it looks like this! It is a fun change of pace from the tree and brings in a color other than blue. I will need to find some other fun yellow accents to bring some of the yellow throughout the room.

(PS the reason it is 3+ projects is because I still have some of the extra fabric I had to cut off of the big wall art. We will see what I come up with for that :) )
