Since starting 3rd shift on Monday, I have realized that my blackout shades aren't as good as I had hoped. Also, I have grown to hate the skylight in my bathroom. It is really the worse of the 2 evils. Even with the door closed there is a decent amount of light that comes in around door frame. After it woke me up for the second day in the row yesterday, I decided to get crafty. I found a template for a sleeping mask online. They recommended 3 layers of fabric for each to allow for blocking the most light. So I pulled out this pile of fabric and went to work with the scissors.
Here is the fabric for one of the masks:
Here is what it took for 2. I made it so the masks would tie in the back, since I didn't have any elastic. It only took me about 1 hour to make 2 of these from start to finish (including getting out the sewing machine and putting it away).
Now I have 2 sleeping masks to hopefully help me get a few more zzs. It seems to be working well because I slept for 6 hours today! It doesn't seem like much but it is an upgrade from the 4 I had been getting :)
