It has been a busy morning at the hospital! We did finally hear back from the cardiologist. The one in house is on vacation, so they had to send the ultrasound to Mayo, which is why it took longer than normal. Fin has moderate Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). There are three stages and he is right in the middle. This is the artery that bypasses the lungs that usually closes shortly after birth. They said the blood is flowing like they would expect and he is getting more blood flow to the lungs than he should be. This is likely what's causing him to have to work harder to breathe. Right now, they will cut down on his fluids to help it to close. They will increase his calories so he is still getting enough nutrition. It could take weeks for this to help, and it may still not fully close. It is definitely something they will continue to keep an eye on.
Fin got his first sponge bath this morning! He didn't like it at first, but that was likely because I was peeling some of his adhesive monitors off while soaking them with water. I wasn't able to get all the adhesive off of his skin like I was with his sister. I think his skin holds onto it a bit more. Hopefully once he can have a real bath, we can get that gunk off his skin a bit better.
Fin is now over 3 lbs! He officially broke the 3lb mark yesterday and was even an overachiever getting to 3lb 1oz. Maggie went over her birth weight and is at 2lbs 12 oz. I think the protein is working to bulk up these little babes!
The twins got to move rooms and change beds this morning! They started to wean them both off humidity last night and by this morning, they didn't need it anymore. This meant they could move into smaller isoletes and they can now share a room! It's a bit crowded, but I'm excited to have them together. This means we can hold both of them at the same time! Both John and I will try to do that this afternoon :) (side note, check out our awesome wall art)
