It is crazy to think that our kiddos are one week old already! This morning was the 7 day ultrasound. John and I had a Ronald McDonald room, so we could head down for the ultrasound (even though it was at 2am). The official word is that Maggie's was still negative and Fin still had a grade 1 in the same spot. It was smaller than before, so we are pleased with that. They aren't concerned about it and won't check it again for a while.
Both kiddos came down in bilirubin today, so they both got to come out of their lights. I think they appreciated that. Fin's sunglasses were leaving some lines on his face, so the break was much needed for his adorable little face.
They upped feeding amounts again today. Maggie and Fin are both at 16 mL and have been tolerating that well. We are almost up to full feeds for their size. Once this happens, we get to take out the IVs all together! Once Fin has his IV out, we can hold him as well. We are both very excited to get to hold our little man. The doctor was optimistic we will pull those tomorrow, but they do need to go up in feedings before that can happen. We are keeping our fingers crossed :)
We had our first 'Family Rounds' today. This is where our whole team of folks come to our room together to review how the kiddos have been doing, We align on goals for the kids and we align on developmental goals that we can help with. Some examples of this are decreasing respiratory support and getting to full feedings for patient goals. Developmental goals are things like holding skin to skin and John and I being brave enough to actually change those tiny diapers. It was a great experience to do the rounds with this group of folks and fun to recap how the kiddos have been doing for a week. It also gives us a chance to ask any questions we have while everyone is in the room.
Today, when I left the hospital, John was holding skin to skin. I was laughing at Maggie's facial expression so I snapped a quick picture. John thought he would recreate it. I will just leave you with those two pictures :)
